The University of Delaware Library is recruiting for the following
professional position:

Head, Acquisitions Department (Level 16) Library

DEADLINE: February 6, 2006

REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Seeking
candidates with a minimum of three years recent experience in monograph
acquisitions and/or serials. A proven record of success as a supervisor.
Experience with an online integrated library system; ability to assess
and implement new information technologies. Ability to implement and
foster change. Excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal
skills. Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively in a complex
environment with Library staff who have diverse information and support
needs. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of
acquisitions business practices. Awareness of current trends in
publishing, acquisitions/serials, and automation. Preferred: Experience
working with vendors and publishers. Budget experience.

DUTIES: The Head, Acquisitions Department manages the operations of the
Monographic Acquisitions, Serials, and Government Documents and Map
Processing Units. The Department Head provides leadership for three
librarians, 16 support staff, and student assistants, sets goals,
establishes priorities and work flow, and conducts the ongoing review of
policies and procedures. The Department Head is responsible for
expending the Library’s materials budget of over $7 million, provides
reports, monitors the electronic invoice payment interface with
University Procurement, and uses PeopleSoft Financials. The incumbent
plays a key role in the management of the integrated library system, Ex
Libris Aleph 500, for the order and receipt of library materials as well
as the investigation and implementation of methods for exchanging
appropriate electronic data between libraries and vendors. Leads
Department staff in the use of new technologies. Oversees gift
processing. The Department Head will foster cooperation and
collaborative efforts within the Department and with the Bibliographic
Control Department and other Library departments. Reports to the
