CATALOGING/METADATA LIBRARIAN

Creighton University Reinert/Alumni Memorial Library seeks an enthusiastic and innovative individual to join the Technical Services team as Cataloging/Metadata Librarian, providing access to print, electronic, and digital collections.  Responsible for performing original and complex copy cataloging of materials in all formats, with emphasis on continuing resources, government publications, and electronic resources. Employs traditional cataloging principles, including description, classification, subject analysis, and authority control.  Demonstrates knowledge of emerging metadata schemes, and participates in team planning and new initiatives of digitization projects.  Works collaboratively with all Technical Services staff (Acquisitions, Serials, Cataloging, Government Publications, and Collection Development).  One of six positions reporting to the Head of Technical Services.

Required:  ALA-accredited MLS degree, with minimum 2 years' experience as a student, paraprofessional, and/or professional in a library setting.  (Recent MLS graduates are encouraged to apply); knowledge of cataloging standards including LC Classification, LCSH, AACR2, MARC21, and other non-MARC metadata schemes, such as Dublin Core; experience with a major bibliographic utility (OCLC WorldCat/Connexion preferred); ability to organize work independently as well as function in a team-based environment; ability to communicate effectively; commitment to professional growth and knowledge of trends in cataloging technology.

Preferred qualifications:  Cataloging experience with an integrated library system, such as SIRSI Unicorn; knowledge of markup languages, MARC, XML; reading knowledge of one or more foreign languages (Spanish preferred); ability to pay attention to detail.
