Collection Development and Acquisitions Services, Department Head
The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries, Orlando, seeks a Head of Collection Development and Acquisitions Services. The department coordinates the collection development policies, evaluates the libraries' collections, acquires library resources in all formats, and includes binding, preservation and gifts units. This position reports to the Associate Director for Collections and Technical Services. Expected performance includes active participation in the intellectual life and administrative activities of the Libraries and University and maintaining a record of professional contribution. The acquisitions budget is 5.3 million dollars, of which 2 million is spent on electronic resources. The Library is currently migrating to the Ex Libris ALEPH LMS.
Responsibilities: Responsible for the overall management of Collection Development and Acquisitions Department which consists of a staff of two and a half other professionals and thirteen paraprofessionals plus student assistants. Hire, train, and supervise staff and conduct performance reviews: administer operations for purchasing of print, non-print, electronic monographs and serials; coordinate the collection development activities of 18 librarians in a librarian/faculty liaison model; direct the workflow of the department to accomplish its tasks; provide leadership for a knowledgeable staff in an environment of anticipated change; develop and implement departmental policies and procedures; create a positive work environment. Together with the Associate Director for Collections and Technical Services, and the Department Head of Cataloging Services set priorities, allocate resources, and develop plans, policies and practices to enhance the access and use of all library resources at all locations.
Qualifications: Required: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited library school; experience in collection development or acquisitions work; experience with an integrated library system; record of increased management responsibilities; ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a dynamic and changing environment; commitment to enhancing services through teamwork and responsiveness to clients. Preferred: Knowledge of standard selection and evaluation methods and tools; experience with approval plans, monographic and serials ordering; experience with acquisitions budget projections, allocations and reports; experience with library technology applications; record of professional contributions.
