Serials Acquisitions Glossary 3rd edition, revised
Jim Millhorn 03 Nov 2005 17:16 UTC
Greetings:
Long, long ago in the field of serials/acquisitions practices-1993 to
be precise-the Serials Section/Acquisitions Committee published under
the auspices of the ALCTS the original print _Serials Acquisitions
Glossary_. There have been several subsequent attempts to revive and
update the Glossary. Notably, Kim Maxfield (MIT) as Chair of the
Committee completed an electronic Supplement to the Glossary in March
2003. In the last year Committee Chair, Sandhya Srivastava (Hofstra
University), appointed a Sub-Committee-Janet Hulm (Ohio University),
Marie Seymour-Green (University of Delaware), and Jim Millhorn (Northern
Illinois University)-charged with creating an electronic document
integrating the original Glossary with the Supplement. The idea was not
merely to merge the two documents, but to establish a platform wherein
interested readers could suggest additions and deletions to the
Glossary. The members of the Committee are intensely aware of the need
to review the entire Glossary. Certain terms may appear obsolete,
whereas a number of key concepts and developments that have emerged
recently remain absent and unaccounted.
The Committee invites all individuals with an interest in
serials/acquisitions to forward their suggestions to the current
Committee Chair, Gary Ives (Texas A & M), GIves@lib-gw.tamu.edu (Texas A
& M). Gary and the Committee will review all the recommendations on a
biannual basis, and amend the Glossary accordingly. With your support
and participation the Glossary can evolve into an ongoing discussion
that charts the ever-changing terrain of the serials/acquisitions field.
The Glossary is currently posted at the ALCTS web site:

Gary's email address is also posted at the bottom of the Third
Foreword to the Glossary.
