Call for Articles - Against the Grain Cris Ferguson 12 Sep 2005 14:13 UTC

Apologies for cross posting...

Against the Grain is now accepting submissions of articles for the
December/January issue. The April 2003 issue of ATG addressed some of the
arguments surrounding the issue of canceling print in favor of electronic
subscriptions. The issue December / January 2005 issue will re-examine
this topic, looking at some of the practical issues surrounding the
cancellation of print and how libraries, publishers, and vendors have made
it work.

Possible article topics include:

- Case studies of library(s) that have canceled print for electronic: What
factors influenced the decision? What kinds of resources were switched to
electronic? How was the project carried out? How do you make it work?
How have patrons / the public reactions? What problems arose? How have
day-to-day operations changed? Looking back what you would you have done
differently?
- Pro's and Con's: What are the arguments for and against going
electronic? What factors should be considered when debating whether to go
all / mostly electronic?
- Public services perspective: How have reference, circulation, and ILL
been affected / changed?
- Technical services perspective: How have workflow and departmental
procedures been affected / changed?
- Subscription agent's perspective: How does going electronic change the
relationship with and the duties of the subscription agent? What is the
subscription agent's role at a library that is primarily electronic? How
can the subscription agent be of use in the all electronic environment?
- A literature review covering the broad topic of canceling print for
electronic

Articles on other aspects of the cancellation of print are also welcome.
