PROJECT MUSE ANNOUNCES PRICE AND TITLE DETAILS FOR NEW PREMIUM
COLLECTION

Project MUSE is pleased to announce details for its new Premium
Collection of online scholarly journals, available for subscription
beginning in 2006. The list price for the Premium Collection is
$24,500, with over forty new journals confirmed for inclusion. A
complete list of new titles appears near the end of this announcement.

Libraries that choose the Premium Collection provide their users with
expanded coverage of high-quality full-text, peer-reviewed journals in
the humanities and social sciences in a common interface. New and
currently participating not-for-profit publishers benefit from a
sustainable, stable revenue model for worldwide dissemination of their
content.

An overwhelming number of titles applying for inclusion in the MUSE
online journal collections for 2006, combined with a commitment to cap
annual price increases for current collections at six percent through
2007, resulted in the development of the new Premium Collection. This
new option incorporates all the new titles selected, and provides an
option for libraries that have the need and the funding to acquire a
more expansive collection of refereed titles in the humanities and
social sciences.

MUSE’s new Premium Collection and the newly re-named Standard
Collection (formerly the Full Collection) offer libraries the best of
both worlds. Libraries seeking the most comprehensive collection of
online arts and humanities content can choose the Premium option, while
subscribers needing a stable, core collection with predictable pricing
will find that in the Standard.

For domestic academic subscribers, MUSE’s new Premium Collection will
use the Tier and Quartile pricing system introduced in 2005. This
system places each institution on a grid based upon its Carnegie
Classification and full-text usage relative to other subscribers in the
same Tier. The 2006 pricing grid for the Premium Collection may be
viewed online at
http://muse.jhu.edu/about/subscriptions/

special library customers should contact MUSE’s sales office for
specific pricing information.

A small set of selectively-chosen titles from those joining MUSE will

Essays in Criticism, L’Esprit Createur, Southwestern Historical
Quarterly, and Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society. Selected
titles will also be added the MUSE’s Basic Research, Basic
Undergraduate, Arts & Humanities, and Social Sciences collections for
2006. Please see our 2006 subscription information at
http://muse.jhu.edu/about/subscriptions/subscriptions06.html for
complete details on titles included in each MUSE journal collection.

Three titles currently offered in MUSE will be going to “archive-only”
status after 2005, meaning no further issues of these titles will be
contributed to the collection. The Yale Journal of Criticism is ceasing
publication, and Francophonies d’Amerique was acquired by a publisher
that does not currently participate in MUSE. Hesperia is not continuing
because the publisher has chosen to terminate its contract with MUSE.
All issues of these titles currently online will remain in MUSE and be
available to subscribers.

Prospective and current subscribers are encouraged to contact MUSE’s
Subscription Support desk at muse@muse.jhu.edu with any questions
regarding the Premium Collection, or to request a price quote.
