***Cumbersome in what way? More cumbersome than manual?

***We've been checking in on Voyager since we got it, it's better than
some systems, worse than one we had in particular, but in all ways
vastly preferable to manual, IMHO.

Hi,

One of our reference librarians here who had consulted before for
numerous libraries brought up the idea that we could perhaps return to
manual check-in and tracking for our ~500 journals. We currently use
Voyager Acquisitions which has been cumbersome for us in many respects.

I can see that this would be easier to deal with in certain respects but
also think that we would then lose the integrated information management
that Voyager offers. I would love to hear other perspectives on this
issue, so please feel free to respond!

Thanks,

Sunny

Even though Voyager is not perfect, I can't imagine going back to manual
check-in. Before we implemented the Acquisitions module for check-in, I
thought it was a waste of time, but now I wouldn't do it any other way.

You get claims reports and other things that make management much
easier. Also, I can have an aide do check-in when I am out of the
office - I never would have done that with check-in cards.

We have about the same number of journals as you have and our tracking
of claims is much better now. Before the only way I knew that something
was missed was when the next issue came in and by then it was sometimes
too late to claim the missed issue.

I haven't used any other system and so there may be something better
than Voyager, but going back to manual check-in is not the answer. I
notice that the librarian who is suggesting this is not the one who
would have to deal with the problems.

We are heading TOWARDS using voyager acquisition for serial
checkin. I am opposed to taking steps backwards to manual
checkin, etc. It is a waste of time and effort. Non-tech
services people don't realize just how much information we
need to keep track of for each title that we check in and
Voyager's integrated system helps keep track of this
information. We are (hopefully) also going to be using the
Voyager binding module as well.
