Re: Ulrich's Serials Analysis product

Scott,
We have Ulrich's Serials Analysis System at MSU. I have not used it to
its fullest potential yet but I know it has a benchmarking feature where
you can compare your title list against those of a comparable
institution. Obviously, you must upload your ISSN's into their system
for this type of analysis feature.
However, if you are a customer of Serials Solutions' E-Journal Portal
product you have the ability to do the same type of benchmarking
included in your subscription. The great part of this is that you will
not have to upload your ISSN's, as a current customer, you already have
your ISSN's activated within their system.
Thus, it takes very little time to run this type of analysis.
I am not sure about other features of SAS, but make a list of things
that you expect a system such as SAS to do and if you are a current
customer of Serials Solutions check with them because they may have some
of those features in development and as a result, you won't have to buy
a separate product to run your analysis. I have oftentimes found their
developers to be forward-thinking toward products that librarians,
especially acquisitions librarians like you, Scott, need to make top
level decisions.
As an example of having their finger on the pulse of librarians:
During a recent Serials Solutions Webinar on their new ERM (Electronic
Resources Management) tool coming out at ALA it was announced that they
are working on providing an A & I database title comparison tool later
this year. I am very excited about this for obvious acquisitions
reasons. They also have in development a way to combine and compile all
of that statistics data we gather "by hand" every month from our COUNTER
compliant publishing partners.

UMass Amherst is considering Ulrich's Serials Analysis product. Has anyone
on the list had experience with it, and if so would you be willing to
share your thoughts/impressions? You may respond to me off list. Thanks.
