ISSN Numbers Melissa Farley 08 Apr 2005 15:39 UTC

Hi,
We have a large file full of all our paper and microform periodical
holdings information. The file has been updated a lot over the years by
a lot of different people and is hardly standard. For some reason, the
ISSN numbers weren't included when the file was started years ago. I've
already added as many ISSN numbers as I could from our EBSCO list (after
I moved the list and others over to an Access Database).

Does anyone know a good way to get the over 2500 ISSN numbers left for
the rest of the titles? I know that some of them will have to be
manually looked up because they were originally typed with odd
punctuation and abbreviations. But I believe that a good many of them
must be typed accurately so as to be updated fairly simply if there were
a database that offered such a service. I took a few minutes and
checked out the ISSN page (http://www.issn.org:8080/pub/), and it looks
like it might be useful. Does anyone have an experience with their
service to update ISSN numbers? Are there other options available?

Thanks,
Melissa Farley
