The Head, Serials Acquisitions Department, directs the department's activities of 7.5 FTE as an integral part of the Resources and Collection Services Division consulting and coordinating with other departments throughout the Library The department head develops goals, sets priorities, and establishes benchmarks for Serials Acquisitions within divisional and library priorities, and develops agendas based on these priorities and the strategic needs of library departments and branch libraries. The department head sets priorities for Serials Acquisitions applications within the ILS, develops new applications that streamline the workflow, and directs the overall functions of the department, always seeking to improve service and responsiveness of the department to current budget and program priorities. The department head also serves as the primary manager of the serials cost per use database, establishing its structure, content, and the policies that govern the database. The Serials Acquisitions department head will be a key member of the budget planning team for library materials, with responsibility for tracking emerging trends in serial costs, media, and system applications. The Head will also be a key player as the Libraries and the University analyze the changing models of scholarly communication within the many subject areas of the University. This is a critical position as the Libraries' means of delivering information shift into a more complex digital and virtual community. The department head is responsible for directing the staff of the department through the unit supervisor and for coordinating their activities with other library units. The department head serves on the Library Administrators and Managers Group, Resources and Collection Services Department Heads, and is an ex officio member of the Collection Development Committee. Reports to the Associate Director for Resources and Collection Services. As a member of the Library Faculty, participates in faculty and professional activities in the University Libraries, within the University, and in library or other professional organizations. Maintains memberships and actively participates in relevant professional organizations. Engages in professional development, scholarship and service to the profession with a commitment to continuing growth and development. Contributes to the profession's growth through scholarship related to librarianship, information science, or other relevant fields. Helps to shape future library service by participating on library wide planning teams, through individual collaborations through the Libraries and by leading or assisting in developmental projects. Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program, with a minimum of three years of professional library experience of which at least two years should be in serials, a strong management background, strong oral and written communication skills, and the proven ability to solve problems constructively, and to create a positive work environment. The ability and desire to work within a collegially cooperative environment and to contribute to the Libraries' priorities, strategies and accomplishments are critical qualities for the success of this appointment. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Minimum beginning salary $40,000. Appointment salary and rank are competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Librarians are non-tenure track members of the faculty and earn 20 days vacation annually. The University offers an excellent benefits package.
