Rank: Senior Assistant or Associate Librarian
Salary: Dependent on qualification and experience. Senior Assistant
Librarian minimum $50,100; Associate Librarian minimum $57,612.
Position: Cataloging Coordinator.
This is a 12-month tenure track position.
Mandatory Qualifications: MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited
program, with a minimum of two years experience in bibliographic control
in an academic or research institution; extensive experience and
knowledge of cataloging standards such as AACR2, MARC 21, LCRI, Library
of Congress Classification and LCSH; extensive experience with OCLC or
RLIN, LC Classification and an integrated library system, especially III
Millennium; strong oral and written communications; high degree of
computer literacy; awareness of current trends and emerging technologies
in Cataloging and Bibliographic Control; strong interpersonal,
leadership and management skills; ability to work well independently and
within a team environment; ability to plan, coordinate and manage
personnel and projects. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to
working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong record of involvement in professional
organizations and activities; experience working with a consortium;
experience cataloging a wide variety of foreign language material; at
least a year of supervisory experience in Cataloging and Bibliographic
Control; experience and knowledge of several metadata schemes such as
USMARC, Dublin Core, EAD; and knowledge of electronic resources and
digital format cataloging standards.
At time of appointment, the successful applicant, if not a U.S. citizen,
must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration
Services to work in the United States.
Responsibilities: Oversees the operations of the cataloging unit; has
overall responsibility for cataloging of all materials for the library
including database maintenance, government documents processing, and
organization. Provides training, prepares reports, and develops
procedures for the unit. Works closely with the Chair of Technical
Services and the Collection Development Coordinator to provide strong
leadership and management of the department in a collegial academic
environment. Assignment includes service at the Reference Desk, with
occasional evening and weekend hours. Depending on background and
experience, bibliographic instruction and/or a collection development
assignment are possible.
