I had to do this. I did a complete list of all the titles and volumes
that were going into storage. Not just based on what the catalog said we
had but checking shelves to make sure all volumes were there, making
note of call numbers and problems if any and noting anything missing. I
would not depend on an intern to do this or the storage company. If the
volumes are being stored in boxes then contents of boxes need to be
inventoried per box, should be done in call # sequence. This takes a lot
of time but its worth it. MP

Subject: [SERIALST] Boxing Periodicals
Dear Colleagues
Like many of you I'm sure, we in the periodicals department of James
White Library, at Andrews University, MI are facing severe space
problems. Our compacted shelving project has been put on hold and we are
now facing the task of boxing up many of our older periodical titles,
where we have online coverage, and moving them to offsite storage. (Our
faculty are not ready to discard print entirely at this stage.)
If any of you have already done something similar, can any of you offer
any words of advice as we embark on this project? Labelling? boxing?
storage tips?
All contributions would be appreciated.
Marilyn
