JOB VACANCY UNIVERSITY AT ALBANY ALBANY, NEW YORK WEB APPLICATION AND DATABASE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER POSITION: Web Application and Database Development Manager RESPONSIBILITIES: The University at Albany Libraries seeks a Web Application and Database Development Manager (SL-4) reporting to the Head of Library Systems. The successful candidate will develop and support web projects that enhance access to electronic resources via the Libraries' Web Site and online catalog. Library Systems supports Unix and Windows servers, as well as 500 PCs, the ALEPH library management system (Unix), web servers (Windows/IIS 5+ and SQL Server 2000 with Active Server Pages), proxy servers (Windows/EZProxy), electronic reserves (Windows/ ERes), Interlibrary Loan (Windows/ILLIAD), bindery (Windows/LARS), and a number of administrative applications. The department provides training and assistance to staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelors degree including at least 12 hours of computer science Demonstrated ability to program using Visual Basic and VBScript, generate dynamic Web pages using ASP, create and maintain Windows applications, design and create a SQL database using Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle, develop web pages driven by a SQL database, program in XHTML, CSS, XML, and XSL Excellent communication skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to teach and assist users at all levels of computer knowledge in a supportive manner Willingness to learn new skills A demonstrated ability to work with culturally diverse people.
