Barbara,
Even though the libraries may differ in size, the main objective here is
to have a guide to work from. I know what it is like to be new and
getting started. I only had the manual to help me along, and I still do
know a lot of things.
I do not know what is contained in your manual, but from what I can
gather, most of the folks asking were just wanting to see what ours
contained. I am sorry that someone has been offended, but we are not
wanting to publish anything. I was just being what I know best to
be--helpful!
Guys, I thought that the purpose of this support group was to support each
other and help each other. All of the ones asking are either new, fairly
new, or just did not have a guide to write one from. One can adjust to
ones' needs.
Thanks for the other comments.
Diann

Subject: Re: [SERIALST] In-house serial dept manual
Dear Serial List Members:
I can appreciate the interest in the in-house department manual - the one
we developed took several weeks of concentrated effort on the part of all
members of the Serials Department.
When the original request went out from Michele Pope I forwarded her the
Table of Contents and a few other sections of our manual. I was happy to
do this because I know how difficult it is to get started with these
things.
I'm a little taken a-back however, by the numerous requests for the entire
text of another library's manual. For one thing, the manual necessarily
will be heavily geared toward that library's ILS and work flow.
Secondly, if there is such a great deal of interest perhaps Ms. Parker or
her library (or for that matter my own library) should consider developing
an ALA publication on the subject.
I'm not sure all the requestors appreciate the time and effort required to
produce such a document or they might not be so ready to ask for a free
copy.
Just my thoughts.

Diann,
I will be also interested in taking a look at this manual. I will really
appreciate, if you could also email this to me. Thanks a bunch.
