Assistant Professor/Serials Librarian
Mississippi State University Libraries seek a creative, knowledgeable,
and skilled library faculty member as Assistant Professor/Serials
Librarian. This person will assist in the management of the Serials
Department relating to searching, ordering, receiving, claiming, binding
and fiscal control of serials in all formats.
Duties/Responsibilities:: Works with the Coordinator of Serials in
planning, setting goals and monitoring work flow. Develops new
procedures pertaining to the acquisition, processing and access of
electronic serials; maintain ongoing contacts with publishers and
vendors; participation in the license review process; maintain database
of electronic resources; authenticate electronic journal access; assist
with maintaining SFX KnowledgeBase; collaborate with serials cataloging
to verify network links and assist with record maintenance; work with
EDI or electronic invoicing; participate in appropriate collection
development activities as a library liaison to one or more academic
departments; and meet library and university requirements for promotion
and tenure in the areas of librarianship, research , service and

Reports to the Coordinator of Serials.
Requirements: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program;
familiarity with the serials trade and with current trends in serials
management and control. Experience with an automated library system and
a bibliographic utility (preferably OCLC.) High level of familiarity
with computers and Windows NT. Must have strong analytical and
organizational skills as well as effective interpersonal, collegial and
communication skills (both oral and written). Must be able to set and
adjust priorities and work flow in a dynamic and changing environment
and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library
goals. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as
part of a team emphasizing a good balance between quality and
productivity.
Preferred: : Knowledge of serials cataloging (print and electronic).
Experience with the SIRSI Workflows.
Excellent benefits package. Faculty rank, privileges and
responsibilities; 12 month appointment. Salary: $34,000 - $36,000,
commensurate with qualifications and experience.
