We are augmenting our staff team for the development of digital library
services and wish to post two vacancies; one tenure-track faculty position
and one staff position.

DIGITAL PROJECTS LIBRARIAN (Faculty, Tenure-Track)

Drake University's Cowles Library is seeking to recruit a Digital Projects
Librarian.  "The Drake experience is distinguished by collaborative
learning among students, faculty, and staff and by the integration of the
liberal arts and sciences with professional preparation."  The individual
in this position will be a member of the newly formed Digital Library and
Teaching unit of the library. The mission of this unit is to continue the
deployment of advanced digital content, access tools, and to further the
collaboration with the teaching faculty to advance student-learning
outcomes. This effort is supported by income from an information
technology fee, and represents an exceptional opportunity for a highly
motivated individual to participate in the development and growth of a
dynamic 21st century library service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  This position undertakes the production, creation, and
maintenance of the unique collections and services of the Drake Digital
Repository (DDR). The individual in this position will work closely with
the Digital Content Coordinator on developing and sustaining
collaborations with the teaching faculty, and other parties that might be
involved in the creation of digital content. This position entails
coordinating processes and technical aspects of production workflow
necessary to bring digital projects to completion.  Representative duties
include:  coordinating technical support for the DDR and its web presence;
coordinating training and documentation for the DDR; recommending metadata
standards; spearheading marketing efforts; analyzing library's electronic
database subscriptions; and serving as a librarian liaison for specified
subject areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  MLS from an ALA-accredited institution;
ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
familiarity with the digital library environment, which includes database
architecture, metadata standards and web delivery of information;
excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to plan,
coordinate, and implement projects.  Preferred:  Previous experience in a
digital environment (library, museum); working experience with OAI/PMH
standards; familiarity with digital archival methodology, and best
practices, intellectual library property/copyright issues, and usability
assessment of digital collections; record of professional involvement and
productivity.

SALARY/RANK:  Faculty appointment; rank and salary (beginning in mid-40's)
commensurate with qualifications and experience. AVAILABLE:  Review of

WEB DEVELOPER  (Full-time Staff, Exempt)

RESPONSIBILITIES:  The individual in this position will be primarily
responsible for managing (updating, maintaining, design, development,
evaluation) the Cowles library's web presence.  He/she will work with
(Electronic Resources Selection Committee, Digital Content Coordinator,
Digital Projects Librarian, Digital Media Specialist, and others) to
coordinate overall web development, and will work with ERSC in areas such
as recommending and implementing appropriate software such as link
resolvers & checkers, and search federators.  Complete listing of job

QUALIFICATIONS:  Required:  Bachelor's degree.  More complete listing

SALARY: Salary (beginning in mid-30's) commensurate with qualifications
and experience.
