This is a good question. At UNR, we shelve our current issues by title
initially (in the Current Periodicals area), and then, when the pile of
issues in a given title gets too big and they need to be boxed, we box
them and file by call number in the main stacks. We keep preprinted
call-number labels on file for each title, adding only the year (by
hand) to each label to ensure that, in the unlikely event that a journal
issue needs to be reshelved, it will find its way back to the right box.

Because we needed to free up more study space on our main floor, we
recently identified a large chunk of the journal collection that can go
straight to the main stacks instead of spending time in Current
Periodicals first. We divert these during the quick-and-dirty title
check upon receipt.
