Catalog Librarian, Radford University, Radford, VA

Radford University seeks an enthusiastic and customer service oriented
Catalog Librarian to ensure the provision of high quality intellectual
access to our library collection.  This position is responsible for
performing all original cataloging and complex copy cataloging as needed
in a variety of formats.  Supervises two classified staff positions
responsible for copy cataloging, authority control, and database
maintenance.  Plans and implements cataloging-related projects,
contracts, policies, and procedures in consultation with the appropriate
library faculty/staff members.  Maintains web-based cataloging manual.
Responsible for problem solving for OCLC software and applications, as
well as for the Database Maintenance module of the Innopac/Millennium
system.  Downloads MARC records into the Innopac/Millennium system for
new NetLibrary eBooks.  Coordinates downloading of new Serials Solutions
MARC records with the Electronic Resources Systems Librarian.  Involved
in the planning and implementation of related new Innopac/Millennium
modules and features.  Performs and supervises the maintenance of
related system options and codes.  Maintains awareness of developments
in providing catalog access in order to recommend and implement new
policies and procedures.  Investigates the participation in OCLC
Enhance, NACO, and other bibliographic data sharing programs.  Position
reports to Coordinator of Technical Services.

Library faculty are twelve-month, non-tenured professional faculty with
academic rank and responsibilities for collection development,
university service, and professional development/contributions.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:  ALA-accredited Masters in Library/Information Science.
Experience in original cataloging and authority control.  Thorough
knowledge of cataloging and classification practices, including
Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (Second Edition Revised), Library of
Congress subject and classification practice, MARC formats, and
authority control.  Demonstrated knowledge of trends in cataloging  and
national bibliographic control standards.  Demonstrated knowledge of
database maintenance issues and problems.  Excellent supervising,
planning, organizational, and analytical skills.  Good interpersonal and
communications skills.

Preferred:  Experience in using a major bibliographic utility (
preferably OCLC), integrated library system, and word processing and
spreadsheets in a Windows environment.  Experience in an academic
library.  Experience in the use and troubleshooting of the
Innopac/Millennium system.  Proven ability to work collaboratively.
High level of initiative and ability to adapt in a changing work
environment.
