Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting a library get together for a department, small one PT I believe and served some nice refreshments and talked about our electronic and other resources at the library. This kind of a gathering serves other relational purposes and show genuine interest on the part of library staff towards the patron. Not hard to plan or execute, especially if you already have a training room. Irma H. Nicola Serials Coordinator Azusa Pacific University 901 E. Teachers have to be taught that the Internet includes the content of scholarly journals as well as web sites of dubious reliability, such as this one: http://www.lme.mankato.msus.edu/mankato/mankato.html (I mention that one in orientation classes.) Teachers also need to be taught to be more precise in their terminology. Some who say not to use the Internet probably do know about scholarly journals on the web. Martin W. We have chosen to continue our art titles in print, and continue to add new art titles in print format (selecting print/online where possible). This is one area where for the time being we accept print/electronic duplication, since of course everyone wants online access to articles. We'll be watching for inprovement in the quality of digital images, and re-think our formats in the future as we see improvement. For now, we have a lot of art students in the library! If so this is a great way to advertise new improvements in the library. Also a library newsletter with a column about new electronic resources mailed to faculty and staff and available online is also very good. Sandhya Sandhya D. I already send faculty members TOC alerts and new journal information. I also post interesting articles on a cork board. The Conference Mentoring Program is designed to connect first time conference attendees with a 'Seasoned Professional' who can help them in navigating the ALA Annual Conference. If you are on your way to becoming a librarian, or are new to the field, this program is for you! You will have the company of an experienced colleague at the conference and possibly beyond. If you are an experienced librarian, what better way to give back to the profession, build leadership skills, and reminisce on those early days than to be a mentor - plus it looks great on a resume or a tenure dossier! Interested? For more information please visit the NMRT Mentoring Committee page of the NMRT web site at http://www.ala.org/Template.cfm?Section=comm&Template=/ContentManagement /ContentDisplay.cfm&ContentID=59855 and apply online at http://www.ala.org/ala/nmrt/comm/mentoringapp.htm. The Conference Mentoring Program is open to all ALA members and the application deadline is May 14th, 2004. Everyone is encouraged to apply early. Questions?
