Position Vacancy Announcement
Special Assistant to the Dean for Development, Planning, Outreach and
Public Relations
The University of Vermont Libraries seeks a dynamic and forward thinking
professional to provide initiative and facilitation for fund raising,
public relations, outreach and marketing. The University, located in
Burlington, the state's largest city, is a public research university with
7400 undergraduate and 1,600 graduate students. The Libraries include the
Bailey/Howe Library serving the Colleges of Agriculture, Arts and
Sciences, Education, Engineering and the schools of Business and Natural
Resources, and the Dana Medical Library, serving the Colleges of Medicine
and Nursing & Health Sciences.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Dean of Libraries/Chief
Information Officer, the Special Assistant coordinates strategic and
ongoing planning processes and facilitates progress toward specific
planning goals; heightens the visibility of the Libraries through various
communication and outreach mechanisms; assists in the establishment of a
University Libraries External Board of Directors; seeks grant, foundation,
corporate and/or private support for emerging library projects in
collaboration with the Dean's Council and Libraries' faculty and staff and
the University Office of Sponsored Programs; facilitates private fund
development through the University Libraries' Capital Campaign; conducts
research, assessments and policy analyses to provide background
information relevant to projects and grant proposals; promotes cooperative
teams across functional areas for initiatives such as building projects
and new service programs; carries out special projects and participates in
teams as defined and directed by the Dean in coordination with directors
and department heads, and participates in university initiatives that
involve or affect the library.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS degree from an ALA accredited program or
international equivalent; 3-5 years experience in professional
librarianship or a combination of library or other relevant experience;
successful project management experience; record of working with diverse
internal and external constituencies; demonstrated excellent written, oral
and electronic communication skills; team or group leadership and
facilitation skills, and experience in grant and fundraising programs.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in marketing or public relations.

APPOINTMENT AND APPLICATION INFORMATION: Qualifications should merit
appointment at the rank of library assistant (min. $43,337) or library
associate (min. $53,004) professor, non-tenure track. The position is
represented by the United Academics collective bargaining unit. Salary and
rank are dependent on qualifications and experience. Benefit package
includes TIAA/CREF or alternate plan, managed health care plan, and 22
