CATALOGER for CONTINUING RESOURCES/SPECIAL MATERIALS

The University of Akron Libraries invite a flexible, analytical librarian to join its faculty, with an assignment in the cataloging department.  This is a 12-month tenure-track position; the successful candidate will be required to meet university and library faculty tenure requirements of research and service.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Original and complex cataloging and authority control of print, electronic and microform resources, focusing on continuing resources (serial and integrating), monographic publications, federal government documents, and conference publications.  This person will contribute to the formulation of cataloging policies and procedures and serve as the primary resource for paraprofessional catalogers.  Additional responsibilities may include providing support and training for INNOPAC/OCLC, serving as representative to OhioLINK for cataloging and e-publications, acting as liaison for special projects, serving as cataloging contact for the electronic resources librarian, and assuming other duties as required.

REQUIRED: MLS from an ALA-accredited program; a minimum of 2 years of recent experience cataloging continuing resources; working knowledge of cataloging principles and procedures including AACR2, LC subject headings and classification, and MARC 21; working knowledge of standard bibliographic and other reference tools for cataloging and authority control; cataloging experience in an integrated library automation system; working knowledge of at least 1 modern language; effective verbal, written and group communication skills; the ability to work effectively with culturally diverse faculty, staff, students, and patrons.

PREFERRED: Cataloging experience in an academic or special library; experience using cataloging modules of OCLC and INNOPAC; evidence of research and scholarly or professional development.

SALARY, RANK & BENEFITS: Salary and rank are negotiable, dependant on qualifications and experience.  Salary minimum: $38,000.  22 days of vacation, tuition remission, and a generous benefits package.
