Assistant Dean for Collection Development.
The Ohio University Libraries invite applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Dean for Collection Development. This position reports directly to the Dean of Libraries. Ohio University is a member of
the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and is an active and founding
member of OhioLINK, Ohio s statewide library consortium.
The Assistant Dean for Collection Development oversees an annual
collections budget of $4.7 million, working with administration and faculty
to ensure responsible use of funds in keeping with the University s
academic and research priorities. He/she provides leadership and training
to 40 librarians who serve as subject bibliographers and liaisons to
academic units. He/she negotiates contracts for information resources, and
communicates with and monitors performance of vendors, publishers and
aggregators. He/she works closely with the Acquisitions Department (8
FTE), both in ordering and accounting, and with other members of the
Administrative Team and library staff, to ensure effective access to
information resources of all kinds.
The Assistant Dean also:
· Participates actively in cross-departmental teams, committees and
task groups within the library
· Represents Ohio University in OhioLINK collection development
activities and participates in other consortial and professional
associations, as appropriate.
· Advises faculty, bibliographers and senior administrators on issues
related to information resources and scholarly communication.
An ALA-accredited Masters Degree in Library/Information Science (MLS/MLIS)
or equivalent degree is the minimum professional qualification. The
successful candidate will have minimum of 5 years of professional
experience in a research library, including significant experience with
consortia, publishers and suppliers; a thorough understanding of the
research process; and breadth of experience, as well as depth. A second
advanced degree in a scholarly area is preferred. Preference will be given
to candidates with grant writing experience; editing, publishing, technical
and expository writing skills; critical analysis and problem-solving
abilities; procurement and financial management experience.
Salary is commensurate with experience. Ohio University employees enjoy a
