Matt -- I assume you're referring to the Japanese university whose
heading is Ryukyu Daigaku??

If you consider this a minor change, are you going to add a 710 for
the other form of the name?? If so, then it's a name change
(rather than a variant) and should be considered major.

Ryukyu Daigaku. Ringakubu. appears to be the heading for the
College of Science.

In terms of English usage, 'College' and 'Faculty' tend to be used
interchangeably in Japanese academic publications. See NAR #654156
for the heading for the Agriculture College at that same university
that shows both 'College' and 'Faculty' as references to the same
Japanese heading.

With only the english presentation, I would probably consider them
variants, use the Japanese heading and use one record. --Steve

PS. Diacritics missing from headings listed above.

AACR 21.2A1. Major changes states:
"Also consider as a major change in title proper a change in a
corporate body name given anywhere in the title if it is a different
corporate body."
The LCRI states:
"If the change is in the name of a body that is part of the
title proper and the change requires the creation of a new heading
for the body (cf. 24.1C), consider such a change to be a major
change."

That is, if you have the corporate body established as:
University of the Ryukus. College of Science, then changed its name
and established a new name: University of the Ryukus. Faculty of
Science as a later name, then the title of the bulletin has changed
and you need to make a new record.
Um...I hope all of the above is explained well enough.
