Bibliographic Control - Database Maintenance Librarian
Scarborough-Philips Library
The Scarborough-Philips Library at St. Edward's University seeks an
energetic, service-oriented librarian to provide leadership and expertise in
coordinating bibliographic access to all of the library's resources. The
successful candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to
work independently as well as with others, flexibility, organizational
skills, and the capability to work in an environment where decision-making
is a shared process.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Library Director for evaluation as a library faculty
member, and to the Head of Collection Services as part of the Technical
Services Team, the Bibliographic Control Librarian will supervise copy
cataloging; maintain cataloging authority control; provide original and
complex cataloging in all formats including archival materials; maintain the
bibliographic aspects of the ILS; Other responsibilities include regular
rotation in reference services, including some evening and weekend times;
collection development responsibilities for assigned subject areas;
participation in the collegially-based management of the library;
participation in library- and campus-wide activities; and participation in
regional and national library activities. All librarians at St. Edward's
University enjoy faculty status and the opportunity for promotion and
tenure.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants must have an MLS from an ALA-accredited institution and
at least two years of experience cataloging library materials in an a
college or university setting using OCLC and an ILS. Applicants must have
demonstrable knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, MARC, LC classification, Dublin Core,
and some knowledge of XML, EAD, and CONSER standards. Qualified applicants
should have experience in decision-making, problem-solving, communication,
supervising the work of others, working in a collegial environment, and the
ability to assess and implement technologies in the workplace.
Salary and Rank
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is an eleven (11)
month faculty appointment at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level.
