Subject: Workshop proposal for NASIG 2004
To all Serialists,
I am thinking about presenting a workshop at the NASIG 2004 Conference
that will inform attendees about serials in the public library setting. Since
NASIG is predominantly made up of academic librarians and representatives
from publishers and vendors, I thought it might be a good idea to let them
know how the public librarians lived. I was one of a handful of public
librarians at the 2003 Conference and almost felt like a novelty. I loved the
Conference experience and felt I had a great opportunity to contribute in the
future.
I'm tentatively thinking about presenting a workshop comparing and
contrasting serials in an academic library environment as opposed to a public
library environment. I already have some ideas but am looking for input from
others as to what some of the major similarities and differences are between
serials and their management in these two types of institutions. I'd
appreciate anybody's ideas, but especially those of you who may have
experience in both types of institutions. I do not intend for this to be a
research-oriented workshop full of theories and statistics, but more of a
practical sharing of experiences on both sides so humorous stories and other
anecdotes would also be appreciated (plenty of those from my experience).
Please respond to me off the list. Thanks for your time and
consideration.
