Re: Organic Gardening: title change? again?

Anna,
Regarding the problem presented by your last two titles, the CONSER
cataloging manual, in module 16, p. 11, says:
"If the entire title is replaced by a full form or acronym (or vice
versa), consider the change also to be *minor*." So, Organic gardening
--> OG is a minor change.
This means that you don't set up a new record. Ignore the new record for
OG present in OCLC and just make a 246 in your latest Organic Gardening,
to cover the situation. What I always do in cases like this is try to
make a quick decision and then keep in a folder copies of all my problem
records. Then, look them up in OCLC every couple of weeks. Who knows?
Like everybody else, the CONSER libraries can be inconsistent, and you'll
learn a lot in the process.
Just the other day there was a related problem discussed on AUTOCAT, and
no one seemed to agree on how to how to interpret the applicable written
rules and policies.
Good luck!
