I understand the new rules, and feel that they will rightly cut down on
a lot of unnecessary new records. Unfortunately, for any library that
shelves their periodicals alphabetically by title, the decision to keep
Organic Gardening as OG will cause countless problems for shelvers and
patrons alike. On the editorial page of the May/June 2003 issue, editor
Scott Meyer states that the title was changed back to Organic Gardening
at the request of readers. Shouldn't that count for something? They
obviously don't want to be known as OG any more!

Hello Everyone:

Even though the rules say you don't have to use a new record, can we
have the choice to do so?

We like the new title and record because Organic Gardening is what the
magazine is commonly known as. Our patrons and staff never got used to
calling it OG, and now they don't have to.

Thanks,
Hallie

Anna -- Because under current rules this is not a major change, please use
the record for OG (#51989049), I will report #51989049 for deletion.
Since no other CONSER library has stepped forward on this and we have a
current subscription, I'll take care of it. Unfortunately, neither
May/June or July/Aug. issue is on shelf (it's the end of our term and
sometimes things get squirreled away), but hopefully an issue will surface
in the next day or two. --Steve
