Library Specialist II - Position #00015

Minimum Annual Salary - $32,000

The Library of Virginia is seeking a Cataloger Senior in the Technical
Services Branch of the Collection Management Services Division. The
incumbent will be responsible for cataloging library materials in a
variety of formats by applying a working knowledge of cataloging rules
and rule interpretations, LC classification and subject heading
practice, MARC format, OCLC input standards, VTLS requirements and local
practice to ensure that catalog records accurately reflect the Library's
collection and that materials are available for use in a timely manner.
The incumbent works on special projects including maps, electronic
resources, ephemera, and other library materials, and serves as a team
leader for various aspects of the implementation and training for the
library's new ILS system.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree from an accredited
institution in Library Science; will possess considerable knowledge of
standard library operating procedures, automated library systems and
on-line database searching tools; considerable knowledge of technical
processing, bibliographic utilities and local library systems;
cataloging, AACR2, LCSH, and LC classification, and authority control;
knowledge of bibliographic sources and research techniques, of
preservation guidelines; and demonstrated ability to train and review
the work of library assistants and support staff, to perform detailed
work, and to work independently and as part of a team. An equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience may substitute.=20
