PERIODICALS / E-JOURNALS SPECIALIST
Carleton College Library, Northfield, MN

The Carleton College Library seeks a "serialist for the 21st century" to
provide leadership, expertise, and management relating to: acquiring,
managing, providing access to, and fiscal accounting for periodicals in all
formats, with a special focus on electronic journals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Manages periodicals operations for more than 15,000
periodicals titles in all formats - paper, microform, electronic.
Participates substantively in ongoing daily periodicals operations,
especially regarding maintenance of automated serials system records,
subscription renewals, new orders, cancellations, invoices, claims and all
related correspondence, working collaboratively with Periodicals Assistant.
Assures user-focused access to periodicals information, especially for
e-journals.  Supports Collection Development needs in preparing for reviews
of periodicals collections. Scans the information landscape to identify
promising new approaches to the management, organization and delivery of
periodicals content.  Participates in evolving the library's capabilities
to describe, organize and provide effective access to an ever-growing,
constantly-changing range of information resources. Works closely with the
Periodicals Assistant, the Acquisitions Associate, the Bibliographic
Records Librarian, and the Collection Development staff.  Reports to Head
of Technical Services.

This is an exempt position at a competitive salary.  Full-time, year-round,
including academic breaks.  Excellent benefits package.  Available July
2003.
