We currently use EBSCO for our newspaper subscriptions (except local) but
there seems to be a continuing problem with the subscription coming up
short which results in missed issues until the problem is resolved. We
are considering switching to direct ordering for this reason.

Hi Rhonda, I work for a medium size library and order about 90% of all
serials threw EBSCO. Including the newspapers. With Ebsco the items
still come directly from the publisher, which means if you order
directly now the arrival time would remain the same. However you would
pay Ebsco and do all your claiming for missing issues with Ebsco
(online). Our goal was to have a common expiration date for as much as
possible. With Ebsco you have the option of claiming and saying "Supply
issue or refund".

Wall Street journal and USA today arrive on their publication dates through
our Ebsco subscriptions. All other newspapers come at least a few days
later. To receive our local (Philadelphia) newspapers on the day of
publication, we've had to place direct subscriptions.

We order all but our local paper through Ebsco. The delivery is via mail
either way - with Ebsco, you have better luck with claims. We get USA,
Wall Street the same day along with the Raleigh News & Observer. It is
very rare that they do not come in the same day. It's usually a human
error with the post office if they are late. When there's a problem, I
contact my customer rep at Ebsco and they usually call in the claim.
Years ago before budget cuts, we were receiving 25 out of state papers
from across the country and even England. We were very satisfied.
