Electronic Resources/Serials Librarian

The College of New Jersey is a highly selective, comprehensive residential
institution recognized as one of the outstanding public colleges in the
country. Located between New York City and Philadelphia in suburban Ewing
Township, The College enrolls approximately 5,900 undergraduates and 900
graduate students. We are currently seeking candidates to fill a,
12-month, tenure-track position at the Roscoe L. West Library.
Summary of Responsibilities: Coordinates collection management of
electronic resources, including research databases and online journals;
provides leadership for development of the library's electronic and print
journal collection. Shares responsibility for general reference and user
education services.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as the library's specialist for electronic resources. Assume primary
responsibility for acquiring, integrating, and providing access to
electronic resources. Coordinate collection development for journals in
all formats. Monitor trends in serials and electronic publishing in order
to provide informed leadership in these areas. Handle licensing and
registration for electronic resources and serials; prepare annual budget
for electronic resources and journals; monitor expenditure of funds,
vendor performance, and resource use. Act as liaison between Public
Services and Technical Services on electronic resources and serials
issues, such as establishing priorities for cataloging serials titles;
assist Head of Cataloging in development of policies and procedures for
cataloging of electronic titles.
Reference: Provide general reference service and research assistance in
collaboration with the other public services librarians. Some evening and
weekend duties required.
User Education: Participate in general library information literacy
program.
Additional Responsibilities: Serve on institutional committees.
Participate in professional organizations; contribute to research,
scholarly, and professional conferences and publications; carry out other
activities required to attain tenure.
Qualifications:
Required: Master's degree accredited by the American Library Association.
Knowledge of electronic collections and serials operations, focusing on
access management. Knowledge of licensing issues. Excellent oral and
written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills. Initiative,
flexibility, and a strong service orientation are essential.
Preferred: Experience with coordinating electronic resources, including
negotiating access. Experience with serials control, preferably using
Voyager. Basic knowledge of mark-up languages, as well as metadata
standards and MARC formats. Experience preparing budget proposals.
Reference experience and facility with electronic and traditional
information resources. Additional graduate degree is highly desirable.
Rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Salary Ranges:
Librarian III,
$41,329-61,998; Librarian II: $45,566-68,340; with full benefits package
including TIAA/CREF.
