POSITION:  ACQUISITIONS AND SERIALS SERVICES LIBRARIAN

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Head of Bibliographic Services, this
supervisory position manages the Library's acquisitions and serials
programs including: acquisition/receipt of approval, firm orders,
subscriptions and standing orders, monitoring fund balances and other
aspects of library system acquisition/serials modules, and oversees copy
cataloging and binding. This position is responsible for monitoring and
evaluating vendor performance and contracts.  This person has a
subject-based collection development assignment and serves on
library-wide committees, teams, working groups and task forces.

QUALIFICATIONS: REQUIRED: ALA accredited MLS; effective
interpersonal/communication skills; analytical skills, such as problem
solving, quantitative, time management or computer skills; knowledge of
current trends/issues in acquisitions or serials management; knowledge
of basic cataloguing tools; progressively responsible experience in
serials or acquisitions operations; demonstrated experience working with
a bibliographic utility (OCLC) and with the serials or acquisitions
modules of an integrated library system; supervisory experience;
evidence of user centered perspective; evidence of professional
development. PREFERRED:  Knowledge of Innovative Interfaces ILS, print
and electronic serials cataloging; experience in cataloging using MARC
formats, DDC, and LSCH; experience in collection development.

SALARY:  Salary minimum is $40,000.  Good benefits package.

LIBRARY AND LOCATION: Old Dominion University is a state-supported
institution with an enrollment of 19,000 and is a leader in distance
learning. Located in Norfolk, VA.  which was recently designated by
Money Magazine as the most livable large city -metropolitan area in the
South.
