Subject: Paraprofessional Staff working with e-journal procedures

Dear SERIALST colleagues,

I have searched the SERIALST archives for this topic and have only found
one query that seems relevant to my question ( Madeline Windsor, July
2000). There may be other threads I have missed and if so, please let
me know about them. I have also perused the Lib-License list archives,
and also Library Lit. on First Search for articles on this topic. I am
in the process of seeking these out, so if you know of something right
on the mark, let me know. (I do try to keep up with the literature, but
you know how it is!)

The topic being I am specifically interested in finding out who has
added e-journal ordering and maintenance duties to paraprofessional
staff positions. Many libraries, based on what I am finding, are adding
new librarian positions to handle the oversight for this, but I am
wondering who is adding some duties to staff. I know it s happening
but I want to hear from those of you who have experience with this shift.

If you have paraprofessional staff doing anything in relation to the
ordering or upkeep of e-journals, please let me know. What are they
doing, not doing and what level in your system are they. How do they
feel about this added responsibility? If you have a current position
description on file, please send it to me.

Thanks much,

Eleanor Cook
