Head, Information Procurement
Reporting to the Associate Director for Digital and Technical Services,
the position of Head, Information Procurement offers an opportunity for
an assertive, experienced manager to provide vision and leadership in
redefining the procurement of information resources in an increasingly
digital world: lead the department in using emerging technologies and
new approaches in information resource procurement; develop new
policies, procedures, and operations to further integrate the management
of physical and virtual collections; demonstrate successful supervisory
experience with a commitment to staff mentoring and training; lead and
monitor vendor contact and negotiations to secure products and services;
manage gift receipts and processing; maximize the use of technology in
data collection and provide for automated access to that data by
pertinent library staff.
Collaborate closely with the Collection Development unit to facilitate
the identification, selection, and fiscal control of information
resources. The staff is comprised of 2 Librarians and 12 support staff.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS or other relevant degree with a
minimum of 5 years managerial experience in supervising and organizing
the work of others, preferably regarding the purchasing, licensing and
acquisitions processing of information resources. A degree in Business
or related field preferred. Demonstrated experience working with vendors
of information resources, integrated library systems, excellent
communication skills as well as strong analytical, team-building, and
problem-solving skills required.
Environment: The Georgia Institute of Technology, with nearly 20,000

engineering. The Library and Information Center

Libraries, is central to the Institute's instructional and research

Working with a team of librarians, the Digital and Technical Services
Division provides the operations needed to maintain the information
resources required to support an exceptionally energetic academic
enterprise. The Library is a leader in library automation, participates
in the statewide consortium, Galileo, and provides access to an
ever-increasing number of databases, electronic books and electronic
journals.
Salary & Benefits: Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and
experience. The minimum salary for this position is $55,000. Librarians
are members of the General Faculty and are non-tenured. Georgia Tech
