Our library would like to know what others are considering with regard
to the new Sage Full-Text Collections which will be provided via
Cambridge Scientific (CSA).
As you probably know, Sage plans to pull their journal article content
from aggregators to make it available exclusively through their newly
created full text collections. (To the best of my knowledge, full text
access to specific journals to which a library subscribes will still
remain via such vendors as Ingenta and EBSCO.)
We are now facing overwhelming budget issues as are many other states in
the U.S., which are forcing us to begin cancellations to meet our budget
reduction requirements. Therefore it becomes rather difficult to justify
paying the prices which Sage is charging to retain any access which we
now have through such vendors as Proquest and Expanded Academic.
Just to illustrate, here are the prices which Sage is charging by
collection:
Communication Studies: $6000
Criminology: $5440
Politics and Inter. Relations: $6880
Sociology: $10800
This is for one year with a 20% discount. Although they say there is no
price increase for the next two renewal years, those years will be an
additional 20% since the discount is only for the first year.
We would like to know what your library may be considering and how you
may be planning to make up for the loss of access.
