Associate Director and Head of Technical Services

         The Alvin E. Evans College of Law Library, University of Kentucky
is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director - Head of
Technical Services.  This is a tenure track University Libraries position
reporting to the Law Library Director.

         Duties: The Associate Director - Head of Technical Services will
manage all technical services operations for the Law Library.  Under the
supervision of the Law Library Director, this position will plan, develop,
promote and direct the operations of the Technical Services Division for
the Law Library including coordination of all aspects of the Law Library
acquisitions, bibliographic and physical processing functions and
classification of the Law Library's information resources.  This position
will assist the Director in the administration of the Law Library, help to
assure the effective operation of the Library in the Director's absence;
assist in implementing Law Library policies and preparation of the Law
Library budget.

         Qualifications: Masters in Library Science and/or a J.D.  Ability
to lead and work effectively with all levels of colleagues is
vital.  Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to work with
computers, including on-line integrated systems software, and supervisory
experience.  Several years of professional work in a law library
environment and familiarity with legal materials are essential.  Strong
organizational, planning and administrative skills, including the ability
to work effectively on "big picture" and detail levels are also necessary
for this position.  Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication
skills and the ability to manage diverse assignments in a rapidly-changing
organization are critical. The ability to write complex procedures and
train staff and patrons are also required.

         Salary: Salary, benefits and faculty rank within the University
library tenure system are commensurate with experience and qualifications.
