That's very interesting, but as you say, how totally confusing for new
library patrons. We do it by call number order on the stacks shelves; we
also have about 90 titles on display shelves (current issue only) and
those are arranged alphabetically.

Subject: Arrangement of current periodicals
My predecessor arranged the current periodicals by grouping serials
according to professional association rather than alphabetically. For
example, all of the ACM publications are shelved together followed by
the AMS journals. This creates problems for individuals not familiar
with our shelving scheme.
I am wondering how other libraries are displaying current periodicals,
alphabetically, LC classification or another scheme.
