I have read with interest the discussion generated by Ms Beach's
email.  I am a librarian who has had the pleasure of working in
the serials and aquisitions fields for the past 13 years.  Having
said that, I can add a personal note of frustration caused by the
vagueness of job ads especially as they relate to salary range.
What's the big secret?  It is not as if the applicants are never
going to find out!

Career changes at a more senior and managerial level are not
made lightly given the likely age and life experience of the
candidates involved. The reality of the situation is that for
both parties to make an informed choice they need to have all
the facts on the table.
