DocDel/ILL as Acquisitions (RE: Re[2]: Print vs Online) Rick Anderson 09 Jul 2002 21:07 UTC

That's how we see it at my institution, which is how I ended up with my
rather weird title and why I ended up overseeing a division that consists of
Acquisitions, Serials and DocDel/ILL. Most libraries tend to put DocDel/ILL
in the same division as Circulation, but we're looking at it as a way to
acquire materials rather than a way to circulate materials. Seems to be
working well so far.

(By the way, when I was asked to come up with a new title for myself, with
the proviso that it needed to include the word "Director," my initial
suggestion was "Director of Getting Stuff." It seemed perfect to me -- it's
clearly descriptive and makes for a _great_ acronym. My idea was vetoed.)

My initial proposal to replace most ILL with rush acquisition has been well
received by our library dean; when we've worked out the kinks and
established a formal policy I'll send a summary of it to the list.
