I've been out of the office, so I am a little late entering this discussion.
We still maintain both print and online because no one seems to be able to
guarantee how long the online will be available. With some popular titles
we have discontinued binding, assuming that if the online disappears for
back issues, then we can rely on ILL. But does anyone else have thoughts on
this?
Our online usage is way up. People can access it from home and younger
students have no attachment to paper. If we have both, then they go online,
except for journals with charts, illustrations or similar info that may not
be available or as good in the online version. I would really like to
eliminate the paper because it would free up money in the budget to buy
other things that are not available online.
