Hold the Date: Symposium Planned for ALA Midwinter 2003 in Philadelphia

In the last few years, the topic of acquiring electronic resources has been
explored in considerable depth. Now with considerable experience in the
acquisition of e-resources, librarians are now discovering a critical need
to manage these publications effectively and are often finding the task
both complicated and overwhelming. A full day symposium, to be held
Friday, January 24, 2003 in Philadelphia, just prior to ALA Midwinter, is
designed to provide practical information and to explore a variety of
options that librarians may wish to consider in regard to managing the
wealth of electronic material we are making available.

"Managing Electronic Resources: Meeting the Challenge" will be of interest
to librarians from all types and sizes of libraries, and to staff from
technical and public services, collection development, and library
administration. All libraries, whether large or small, whether academic,
public or special, are confronting the same issues: how to manage these
valuable but often extremely expensive resources. Specific information on
speakers, time and location of the meeting, and costs will be posted on the
ALA website early this fall and also to relevant discussion lists. In the
meantime, those interested in attending should hold the date open on their
calendars!
