Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana invites applications and
nominations for the position, Director of the Cushwa-Leighton Library.
The retirement of the current director after 26 years of service makes
this unique opportunity available.
The Library
The Cushwa �Leighton Library serves an undergraduate student body of
1600 women and 134 faculty members. The building presents a contemporary
treatment of the traditional Gothic design of surrounding buildings. The
library houses 210,000 volumes and 800 journal subscriptions and
subscribes to 37 electronic databases. The library also includes
offices, faculty studies, individual study areas, group meeting rooms,
the college archives, a rare book room, the Trumper Computer Center, and
the Instructional Technology Resource Center
Position
The director of the library should demonstrate a deep understanding of
current challenges and emerging trends facing an academic library in an
information age and possess the insight and skills necessary to design
and develop the role of library resources and services for the future.
Exercising leadership in library programs and campus-wide projects, the
director will create effective links with faculty and academic
departments, work collaboratively with consortium colleagues, and
articulate the library�s central role in the life of the college.
Qualifications
* Proven managerial ability with personnel, budget, planning and organizing
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience with current technology and information systems
* A MLS or MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited school. An additional
advanced degree is highly desirable
* A minimum of five years experience in positions of increasing
responsibility in academic libraries

Saint Mary's College, a Catholic women�s college in the liberal arts
tradition, founded in 1844 is located approximately 90 miles east of
Chicago. The college situated on 278 acres of natural and cultivated
