Our public library serves a population of library science graduate
students who attend two distance education programs in South Florida,
with no access to a university library. I used the Library's collection
of professional journals, myself, while attending one of these programs
and appreciated the long runs. Little did I know at the time that I
would now be overseeing this collection. Several titles, of course, are
used for collection development purposes, and challenges. We keep as
many years as space will allow. I have recently had to weed the
collection fairly rigorously due to space constraints. They are kept
anywhere from 5-20 years depending on usage, availability in other
formats (online or in microfilm), indexing, and relevance to our mission.
