The ALCTS President's Program at the ALA Annual Conference will take
place on Monday, June 17, from 10:00-12:00 in the Capitol North and
Center Ballrooms of the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel. The program will follow
the ALCTS Awards Presentation and Membership Meeting, which begins
at 9:30.
The program is entitled "Cultivating the Human Moment in a Digital Age."
Our featured speaker is Dr. Edward Hallowell, Child and Adult
Psychiatrist at the Hallowell Center for Cognitive and Emotional Health
and an expert in the field of psychological and emotional well-being. He
has described how electronic communication limits workplace
opportunities for "the human moment," face-to-face contact that brings
valuable social and psychological benefits. Can we find ways to promote
efficient and productive communication while preserving human moments?
Four librarians will relate Dr. Hallowell's remarks to the library working
environment:
*Michael Gorman (Dean of Library Services, California State University,
Fresno)
*Olivia Madison (Dean of Library Services, Iowa State University
*DeEtta Jones (Director, Organizational Learning Services, Association of
Research Libraries)
*Andrew Dillon (Dean, Graduate School of Library and Information
Science, University of Texas)
ALCTS thanks Elsevier Science and Kluwer Academic Publishers for
sponsoring the President's Program.
