Serials Assistant/Associate - Serials Acquisition and Management

BASIC RESPONSIBILITY: Order, receive, ship and claim publication materials
used in Gale products, with a goal of maintaining issues at maximum
currency and consistency as well as ensuring daily receipts are routed as
required daily.

Responsibilities: Check journals and other materials into production
system according to set procedures and priorities. Create and maintain
subscription profiles in publication information system. Identify, claim
and track to receipt missing issues using current process, priority and
guidelines. Perform follow-up claiming processes to ensure current and
continuous receipt of content. Order/renew journal subscriptions, missing
issues, and other materials as assigned, either direct or by established
subscription vendor, according to set procedures and priorities; conduct
bibliographic or publisher research where necessary. Maintain data
regarding publication title changes, ceases, etc. and forward pertinent
information to publication maintenance staff. Proactively identify and
ensure correction of check-in, dating, publisher, and other errors.
Monitor new titles to make sure first issue arrives, subscription begins
and continues consistently. Maintain records for new orders/renewals;
track order and payment history. Track and maintain workload of orders,
claims and subscriptions. Complete and submit progress reports, and
overall performance metrics as required on a timely basis. Prepare and
ship content to vendors or other groups as necessary to support Data
Conversion. Perform other duties as required to support Gale Group goals
and objectives.

Experience: Bachelor's degree in business, liberal arts, or English.
Equivalent work related experience may be considered. Masters' degree in
Library Science preferred. Two to three years' progressively more
responsible library and serials acquisition experience. Strong
interpersonal skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to
interact effectively with internal/external customers and
vendors/suppliers. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
required. Experience with an online bibliographic utility and integrated
library systems preferred. Proficiency in variety of PC Windows based
applications required (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.)
Proven analytical skills and ability to troubleshoot and proactively
problem solve. Solid organizational and negotiation skills to manage
multiple time-sensitive projects. Solid influencing and team work skills
to mentor and/or achieve results from staff members, peers and others.
