Samford University Faculty-Staff position, non-tenure track. A
full-time,
twelve month position.
REQUIRED: Master's degree in library/information science from an ALA
accredited
library school. Minimum of three years' library acquisitions
experience.
Supervisory experience. Must possess exceptional organizational skills
and a
strong service orientation. Must have excellent oral and written
communications skills. Must have the ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with the library staff, faculty, students,
University
contacts, and vendors.
DESIRABLE: Recent acquisitions experience in an academic library. Law
library work experience. Knowledge of Anglo-American legal materials
and the
law book trade. Experience or course work to demonstrate proficiencies
in OCLC,
AACR2rev, and MARC formats, including USMARC Format for Holdings Data.
Experience with an integrated library system. Experience with automated
acquisitions system.
Duties and Responsibilities: Primarily responsible for the acquisition
of
all library materials (print, microform, audiovisual, and electronic
formats),
supplies, and equipment. Supervises searching, ordering, processing,
withdrawing, superseding, record-keeping, gift processing, and mail
sorting.
Manages procedures for the initial processing of books, periodicals, and
other
continuations. Responsible for the upkeep, shelf maintenance, and
inventory of
federal and state codes, reporters, encyclopedias, digests, and English
materials. Monitors expenditures. Handles the maintenance contracts
for
equipment. Creates serial holdings and item records and maintains
check-in and
holdings records in VTLS. Handles claiming processes. Shares
responsibility of
bindery and other preservation procedures with Serials Librarian. Uses
the
VTLS Serials Control and Cataloging systems, OCLC, FRS (University
accounting
system), and Excel spreadsheets. Works closely with the Law Library
Director.
Maintains working relationships with Law School faculty members; the
University
collection development and government document librarians; University
Accounting, Purchasing, and Controller's Office personnel, and vendor
representatives. Prioritizes job duties and plans work for and
supervises two
Law Library Assistants and one Undergraduate Student Library Assistant.
Compiles statistics and prepares reports. Participates in collection
development and makes recommendations on purchases and cancellations.
Participates in policy decisions, implements procedures, and prepares
manuals.
Coordinates activities with librarians in cataloging, computer services,
serials, and reference. Participates with other librarians in assuming
occasional reference duties.
