We just use the same call number, we like to keep everything together.
Only
time we would use a new call number is if the journal has undergone a
complete change in format, content, subject matter, etc. But then we're
a
small academic library, and our cataloger is flexible about this kind of
thing.

Dear Colleagues,

This may seem silly, but when you have a periodical title change, would
you use the former call number or assign a new one.  I'm thinking in
terms of keeping new and old titles together on the shelf.
