Position Announcement
Head of Acquisitions
RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages all acquisitions functions; trains and
conducts performance evaluations for staff; monitors electronic ordering
and
the outsourcing plan; investigates acquisitions unit workflow
enhancements;
maintains statistics of library acquisitions funds, orders, and
expenditures;
and assists with accreditation, management, and comparative statistical
reports. This position reports to the Dean of Libraries, administers a
materials budget of $3.7 million (80% serials, 20% monographs), and
supervises one faculty member and thirteen classified staff members. The
Head of Acquisitions serves as a member of the Library's Information
Access Committee regarding the allocation of funds and as a regular
member of the Library Administrative Council, the Librarys
policy-making
group. This position has faculty rank and status under guidelines
developed
by the Library faculty.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: ALA-accredited library degree (MLS) or
equivalent; at least three years experience with online library
acquisitions
and with supervision; academic library experience; knowledge of in-print
and out-of-print jobbers/vendors and the publishing trade as a whole;
excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills;
ability to
work effectively with colleagues and staff; and demonstrated planning,
leadership, organizational, change management, and training skills. We
are
seeking an experienced person who can assess the current operation and
implement additional computer technology to increase effectiveness and
efficiency.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with outsourcing, gifts,
serials management, or bindery processing.
SALARY: $45,000 minimum
BENEFITS: 12-month faculty appointment, SC retirement system or a
variety of optional retirement systems, medical and dental insurance, 12
holidays, 18 days of annual leave per year, 15 days of sick leave per
year.
LIBRARY: Clemson University Libraries (http://www.lib.clemson.edu/) is
a member of the Association of Southeastern Research Libraries, with
holdings of 1.1 million volumes and 11,500 current serial subscriptions
(print and electronic). The Library utilizes the NOTIS system. The
staff
includes 30 faculty librarians and 70 classified staff.
CAMPUS AND COMMUNITY: Clemson University is a land-grant
institution with an enrollment of 16,500. Located in the foothills of
the Blue
Ridge Mountains, Clemson is 30 miles from Greenville, South Carolina and
within 2½ hours driving time of Atlanta, Georgia and Charlotte, North
Carolina.
