Subject: generic comments
I've been following the discussion about various ways of shelving
current periodical issues, because I've always found it an
interesting way of examining the multitude of ways we as
librarians elect to arrange serials. With an issue like this, I usually
find that the size of the serials collection (or the library) of a poster
is really important to understanding how that person is viewing the
question. To me, it would really help if people added their
names (at the very least) to the end of their postings, and
preferably also their institutions. In some cases, it's apparent
from the e-mail address, but all too often it isn't.
Someone seeking advice for a way to handle a specific situation
in, for example, a small university library might be more inclined
to find helpful suggestions from people working in similar settings.
There certainly are cases where one size/type of library can
point out the perfect solution for a dissimilar institution. In any
case, though, I think that having that information helps to put
postings in context for me as a reader.
