Subject: Against The Grain/Corporate Universities
I am working on an article for Against The Grain
studying the relationships and experiences of librarians
whose institutions are participating in
corporate/university partnerships. There are many of
these efforts, but for example, Babson College/Lucent
and/or MIT/Merrill Lynch are working together to provide
management education. How are these working out?
Please let me know what you see as the major concerns to
be addressed.
1. If your institutions participates in one or more of
these programs can you/your administration evaluate the
success of the partnership?-----
2. For academic institutions, if the evaluation is
positive, on what basis is that determination made?...Is
it increased revenue?----- Does it mean faculty
positions are being maintained as a result of the
program?---- Is the institution's image in the community
enhanced because of the joint project?--- Is there
something else that the partnership does that helps the
school?---.
3.For corporate/special librarians in these efforts, how
do you quantify success/failure of the program?---.
4. Is there improved access between faculty and or
administration officials and corporate management? This
is touted as one reason for entering these "corporate
university" partnerships.
5. How has your faculty responded to these
university/corporate partnerships?
6. What changes would you recommend in the way your
partnership should be administered?
7. Does Distance Learning play a role in this
partnership? If so, can you estimate the Distance
Learning portion of the academic schedule?
8. Please identify yourself, by name if possible, or by
title, and do you represent the university or the
corporate end of the partnership?
9. May I quote you on the Against The Grain article
which will be written on this survey?
10. Please respond directly to me: <efennessy@att.net>
